Piedmont DC-3 Restoration

The air duct work/electric light section below the rack will be
the next part to be removed.


The Potomac Pacemaker, a passenger plane built in the mid-1900s, lies on its belly like a beached whale in the Back Shop of the North Carolina Transportation Museum.

Now stranded in the expansive warehouse, the Douglas DC-3 passenger plane awaits a spot on display beside the museum’s other vehicles.

One day each month, volunteers work diligently to restore the airplane to prime condition for the benefit of future museum visitors. Read more here...

Tour the Piedmont Airlines DC-3 Restoration:    At the N.C. Transportation Museum's 2014 Spring Kick Off, March 15th, Tours happen at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. Special tours will be available as part of your ticket price, including a walk through the Back Shop to get an up close look at the Piedmont Airlines DC-3 as it undergoes restoration.  Former Piedmont and US Air pilot Captain Bill Wilkerson will provide his expertise.  Details here
